Hints for using the search
Here are a few tips and hints to help you get the best search results.
Search function |
Example |
Description |
Exact phrases |
"change password" |
A search for exact phrases returns results in which the group of words occurs in the same order as specified. For example, an exact search for the words "change password" would only return results in which the term "change password" occurs. It would not return pages where the words "password" and "change" occur separately or in a different order such as "change password".
To specify an exact search phrase, you must enclose the words that form the phrase in quotation marks. You can also combine the search for exact phrases with normal search terms and wildcard terms within a single search query (e.g. "change password" user*). Note, however, that placeholders in exact phrases (e.g. "change password*") are not supported. |
Word X OR/AND Y |
Adapt "Match" settings |
Use this setting to specify whether all search terms MUST be found or whether it is sufficient to find some search terms on a page to be listed in the result. |
Exclude words |
cat -dog |
You can prefix a search term with a minus sign to exclude that search term from the search results. For example, a search for "cat -dog" would return all pages containing the word "cat" but not the word "dog".
|
Wildcard search |
feed* |
You can use the wildcard characters '*' and '?' in your search terms to search for multiple words and get a larger number of results. An asterisk ('*') in a search term stands for any number of characters, while a question mark ('?') stands for a single character.
This allows you to perform an advanced search, such as "zoom*", which returns all pages containing words beginning with "zoom". Similarly, "z??m" would return all pages containing four-letter words beginning with "z" and ending with "m". Likewise, "*car*" would be a search for all words containing the word "car". |
Filter on areas |
Adapt "Filter on areas" settings |
You can use the check boxes to restrict the search to Helps that are assigned to a particular area. |
Recommended links |
Pop-up on the right side, if available |
If the we recommend links to your search query, you will automatically see a small window on the right-hand side in which these links are listed. You can hide this via a button and, if the checkbox "Do not show recommendations any more" is activated, no further links will be suggested. But keep in mind: Cool stuff will be shown here. |
