The license monitor, the web interface of the VS License Manager, can be accessed via a web browser: <address of the license server>:<HTTP_PORT>, for example 127.0.0.1:6280. It displays license information, the availability and usage of features, and the connected clients. License monitoring is automatically updated every 60 seconds. This ensures that it is always up to date.

Log History and Configuration

With the configured Admin password, you can access an extended version of the licence monitor. In the Log tab, you can view the latest log messages from the last two days. The [Download anonymised log] button allows you to generate a new log file containing data from the last five days, with usernames and IP addresses removed. This is useful if you need to send log files for support cases, for example, but want to remove sensitive user data. The Configuration tab displays the current settings of the VS License Manager, e.g. the version, ports, and file paths.

Main Password

If required, access to the basic License Monitor can be completely restricted by setting a main password.

Checkout History

The VS License Manager records how many features are used over time and which users have accessed them. In addition to a real-time view of current feature usage, the system offers several preconfigured charts, including:

Hourly usage for the last 24 hours

Daily usage for the last 30 days

Monthly usage for the last 12 months

Daily denied users for the last 30 days

Click [Open Default Charts] to display the charts mentioned above.

In addition, you can create custom charts for individual time ranges. To do this, click [Open Custom Charts]. The data can be grouped by hour, day, week or month to evaluate maximum feature usage values.

Denials and License Availability

The VS License Manager counts failed license checkout events, which occur when a user attempts to receive a license and there are none available. The denial evaluation counts one denial per user per hour. When you group denials by day, week, or month, the license monitor shows the peak value within an hourly time window. This makes it easy to see how many licenses were missing. For example, if seven different users had their licenses denied multiple times in one day, the peak value could still be two to three denied licenses per hour.

CSV Files

Usage data is stored in the installation directory under /data/History/. The data is stored in CSV format and can be easily used for further analysis. The columns are time (seconds since 01.01.1970), count, feature, category and errorcode.

Error code 0 indicates a successful checkout or check-in. Error code 3 indicates a denial when all features are in use.
